I don't have IBD (my daughter does), but I get the classic migraines with the aura,(zig zags/blindness in 1 high 20 min. preceding) and I highly recommend chiropractic adjustments. Many years ago I had gone to a neurologist, had a CT scan done, tried 3 different prescription meds, and nothing helped (including biofeedback that the neurologist prescribed), so I went to a chiro who did intensive neck adjustments (2-3 per week) and it worked! I was able to get my weekly migraines eventually down to once every 6 months. My crohn's daughter just gets regular headaches off and on, but I plan to take her in the future if it keeps up. So far they have disappeared when the flare went away with her infusion.
I love my Imitrex....it works like a charm so now my 8-hr migraines are down to 2. Once I get the aura, I take the Imitrex, then quickly down 2-3 cups of very strong coffee (or any kind of strong caffeine works-Mt. Dew, Starbucks cold frappichino, coke, etc) and that seems to abort it somewhat, then it's not so bad when it hits. Dr. Andrew Weil in his book "Natural Healing" says for migraine sufferers to stay off caffeine totally on a daily bais, until you get a migraine, then hit it hard. The headache process starts when abnormal constriction of the blood vessels in the head occurs, and when that's done, the headache part comes from them dilating-so if you can keep those blood vessels constricted further, that slows the spasming reaction of the dilation. Ice might also help some. (back of neck).
I know migraines are just awful and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. (I get the full vomiting, chills, nausea with mine). What a curse...huh?

I guess I'm not crazy either! I was just thinking last night that I would post to see if anyone else gets a lot of headaches. My daughter complains of headaches often and yes she also get constipated. I on occassion put lavender on her temples hoping that would help somewhat. She insists why bother with Tylenol as it doesn't help her.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Both my kids--the one with Crohn's and the one with no appetite, reflux, constipation and recurring nausea whose tests always come back normal for everything--have migraines and chronic daily headaches.

Fittingly, I guess, the one with Crohn's gets horrendous migraines, while the one with the nebulous symptoms also has headaches that aren't as severe but are frustrating, and so often occur on the same days as the nausea and constipation. And how wierd is it that sometimes having a bowel movement will make his headache go away?

Thanks for the proof that I am not crazy.

Vikki,

I found the article very fitting for Nicole too and feeling a little less crazy! Her headaches and migraines have been on the upswing along with nausea, no appetite. She did talk to her GI about it and he suggested a Neurologist which I had the same thought in the back of my mind but I am no longer sure that is the answer.

She was treated by her hometown GP for the migraines with Darvocet
and then a New York GP gave her samples of Maxalt to try which do work pretty well if she catches the headache in early stage.

Funny you should mention constipation, Nicole is a constipated type IBDer.

We Moms are NEVER crazy!! We just feel like it sometimes or more often than not!
