My son age 12 was in remission for almost 2 years...lately his appetite slowed, and he complained of bloating and gas pain.. Today he had the small bowel follow through test done , and it showed inflamation of the ternmial ilieum (same area as in the beginning)., he had gone off remicade for a year and half. and was maintaining remission with only 6mp..........waiting to see what the doctor wants to do.......any idea? I am familar with remicade,,,,,but no nothing about Humara,,,,,,,,,,any feedback would help.......do you think he will have to go back to prednisone?

If your doctor wants your son to go back on prednisone, maybe you could discuss Entocort (Sp?). For us, Entocort was easier to wean. We have had great success with Humira. It may be a good option after already having Remicade and the possibility of antibodies from the Remicade.

Don't know if you've tried this already, but if you want to avoid going back to a steroid, might he be willing to try a liquid diet (elemental, semi-elemental, or polymeric) for a couple of weeks? That can be really effective for reducing inflammation in the ileum.

My son Max has maintained successfully on Imuran with only one problem in four years. About 18m ago he also had inflammation in TI and he went on exclusive polymeric feeds for 6 weeks. He felt better straight away and has been fine since. Hasn't even needed to increase his dose of imuran which is quite low.

My guess is that the degree of inflammation will probably influence the decision whether or not to put him back on prednisone.

Has his 6mp dosage ever been adjusted for his growth over the past 18 mos.? Our GI typically uses the Prometheus metabolite test along with a CBC to evaluate whether the medication is within the therapeutic range and working effectively. Perhaps an adjustment with that med and a short course of prednisone would be all that's needed to get the inflammation under control and get him back to remission.

There are others here whose kids are on Humira and it's working well, so hopefully they will chime in with their experiences.
