New study has shown that there is predictive value in the severity of colonic involvement at diagnosis in adults newly diagnosed with CD. The more severe the colonic ulceration the more aggressive the CD. Much higher incidence of colostomy and penetrating complications (i.e. internal fistulas and infections) in these patients: 1 year rate: 31% vs. 6%
As always, view this information with caution since the study looked at adults - not children.
