Re: Psoriasis
Are they treating her with Vitamin D? I read that derivatives of that are often used.Have they checked her blood levels of Vitamin D or prescribed supplementation?

Re: Psoriasis
My niece has Psoriasis Arthritis but she does not have IBD. It is very painful for her. She was on Remicade for a while to treat it she got her infusions every 4 weeks, she also had it on the skin her bones are so diseased by it and she is only 24. Her father took her to Isreal to some sea(sorry I'm ignorant in the name of it) because they state that this sea water had some kinds of minerals that help in healing. She thought this might helped her skin maybe it would soak in to bones. It did help give her some relief but unfortunately she doesn't have a lifetime supply or the money to keep going to Isreal. She just stopped the Remicade because she just had the Gastric bypass surgery. She has some emotional and physical problems so she is hoping that with this surgery she will be on her way to healing. She told me the other day her Dr said she will not go back on Remicade for about another 3 months so she can't wait to see if it will work again. She lives in Port St. Lucie Florida and she used to have her infusions done at home. The RN would come to house to do it. How nice is that?
About your genetics question, my brother who loves kids and is absolutely amazing with them will not have them for his fear. He was in Desert Storm he and the rest of his Platoon all have mysterious illnesses that no one can figure what they are. Everyone last one of them has same symptoms. So the VA has dx it Persian Gulf War Syndrome. There were many of his platoon that had children and many of them had some kind of birth defect or disease. He got fixed at the age of 26 for that fear he could pass something on to his children. It is such a difficult decsion for someone to make. Do you roll the dice and hope the odds are with you? Now with my daughter having crazy symptoms I definitly dont want anymore kids. I personnally couldn't live with myself if I had another and they had an illness along the same lines. What I know now I copuldn't do it and our children are going to have some tough decisions to make ion their future.Robin

OMG! Duh simple geography.
The Sea was the Dead Sea! As you can tell I didn't do very well in that subject in school. There was a spa she went to there.Robin

Re: Psoriasis
We do on my hubby side of the family his brother has psoriatric arthritis, his other brother had UC. His sister's daughter has psoriasis. His Grandmother had Ankylosing Spondilitis (SP?). It is strange to me how it jumps all over the place in his family, he even has a couple of second cousins with Crohn's.So far in our immediate family, it is our daughter that has CD, but my husband has some really bad back pain that the Dr's can never explain. When our DD was first diagnosed, we had NO idea that anyone in his or my family had anything similar...well were we wrong or what? We don't know of any immune related issues on my side as of yet. I do worry about her future, and what it holds in more way than one! having to deal with IBD, having a family and all the meds. I am sorry your DD is having skin problems and it is added to the list of AI issues in your family. AI diseases piss me off too!

Wow it does jump all over the place for you guys. It's crazy to watch how it seems to hop all over the place and land where it wills.

Re: Psoriasis
Son dx with cd 07. No body in family, that we know of, has/had ibd. Last year I was dx with psoriasis, & though hubby has bad case of exema, I had no idea about psoriasis, so did some research.
In my naivity, or should I say ignorance, I didn't realize it was an auto immune disease & worse yet, the article said that if a parent has psoriasis, there is a 50% chance child will have some sort of auto immune disease such as cd. OK, that was a bit more then I was able to handle at the time. I am now resigned to the fact that I will never know if it was me who led to his cd or not, so I stopped worrying. But I do know what you mean about worrying about his life as an adult & what he may pass on to future generations.Yes, the worrying never stops!

Re: Re: Re: Psoriasis
Chaya, I can't believe you remember me! It does seem like a long time. Since my son started Remicade about a year ago, he's been in doing so much better that I played an ostrich in the sand. If I don't look, nothing bad will happen.
To tell you the truth, I missed looking & learning. All of you on this board helped me in so many ways deal & get through the unbelievably rough times.Realistically I know I will need you all one day, & in the meantime, maybe I could help someone in pain.
Thanks for asking, Chaya. I missed smiling at your jokes too!

Re: Psoriasis
I thought there was evidence that psoriosis had some of the same genetic markers that are indicative of IBD. OK, probably not stating it right or over simplifying, but somehow your news doesn't surprise me (both in terms of your family's luck and the pure fact of seeing IBD and psoriosis together).
